I spent a wonderful week in July this year staying at Villa di Sensano with my Mum, using it as a base whilst in Tuscany to attend the last annual Andrea Bocelli concert in Lajatico. Federica and Lavinia have lovingly restored this beautiful villa earlier this year and offer excellent service to their guests – they are genuinely friendly people who take the time to ensure you have everything you need yet still allow you your own space to experience your holiday as you wish. Set amidst stunning scenery the property has been renovated with a keen eye for luxurious detail and is beautifully decorated throughout. We stayed in the ground floor apartment which was perfect for two people and had excellent views to the front of the fruit trees across the lawn and the Tuscan landscape.
For those not wanting to cook there is a family run restaurant in a farmhouse next door to the villa serving traditional Tuscan food. If you are very lucky Federica and Lavinia may fire up their traditional outdoor Tuscan oven at Villa di Sensano one evening and you can sample some of their delicious pizzas. I recommend the Tuna!
In order to enjoy the views at this location you need to have a head for heights on the drive there and back as Volterra is a hill town – a car is essential for staying at this property if you want to explore beyond the villa itself. With a car at your disposal you can easily travel into Volterra (for your nearest supermarket, shopping, restaurants, museums) or further afield to Sienna or San Gimignano.
We had a wonderful week here and plan to return – especially as the massage beds were to be installed the week we left and we can’t wait to come back and enjoy a massage on the roof terrace and a dip in the jacquzzi at the end of a beautifully relaxing Tuscan day.
Spent some time at this terrific Tuscan treat – you will not be disappointed!
